Platycerium veitchii - Staghorn fern
Description: The Platycerium veitchii, also known as the Staghorn Fern, is a striking fern that immediately catches the eye with its unique, staghorn-like leaves. The silver-gray wax coating on the leaves gives the plant an almost glossy appearance and helps it retain moisture in dry conditions, making this fern particularly well suited to indoor spaces or tropical gardens.
Features:
Leaves: The leaves are long, staghorn shaped and covered with a silvery layer. The shape of the leaves provides a sculptural appearance.
Size: The plant can vary in size, but mature specimens often reach an impressive wingspan of 50 to 100 cm.
Location: As an epiphyte it grows naturally on trees, which means it requires little direct soil and can easily be grown in a hanging system or on a moss pole. This fern thrives best in bright indirect light, but can also tolerate light shade.
Care: It needs regular water, but allow the roots to dry between waterings.
Temperature: Suitable for room temperature, with preference for warm, humid environments. Avoid exposure to cold and drafts.
Application: Perfect for modern, natural or minimalist interiors, especially when hung or placed in decorative pots. The sculptural nature of the Platycerium veitchii makes it an eye-catcher in any room, making it a great addition for beginners and experienced plant enthusiasts alike.
